is a 12-week golden retriever old puppy easy to train?
i’m about to get myself a puppy and i was thinking of getting this 12-week old golden retriever. i want a loyal and friendly puppy so is this a good age? is it easy to train at that point? i was afraid 8 weeks might be a bit too young. i’m a first time owner and i have a lot of time on my hands with family helping so looking after it won’t be an issue.

There are tons of web links for dog training–and the earlier you begin, the better. There also are lots of info about housetraining, nutrition–everything you need/want to know about having a puppy!
A few very basics is to make it well known to your dog, that YOU are the pack leader. When it comes to entering a room, or going out a door–YOU go first, and the dog goes after you.
Something as simple as that teaches him or her, that you are in charge!
Also whenever you want to give a treat, have your dog ’sit’ first. You are teaching the dog that he has to follow your command before getting rewarded!
Crate btraining is a wonderful way to teach your new puppy to ‘hold it’ and not pee/poop in the house.
A crate is not a punishment! It is your dog’s own little place (or ‘den’).
Dogs normally will not soil the place they sleep–so they learn NOT to “go” inside the crate. puppies sleep alot–like 16-18 hours a day–at intervals. let him/her sleep in the crate, and take him/her out 5-or more times a day/night to eat, play, have fun, and poop/pee.
warning! he will have to poop immediately after you open the crate, so be prepared with a pidd;le pad, or run him outside asap! And then give loads of praise for “going” outside/ and/ or on the piddle pad.
